REALISTIC UNDERWATER DISASTER MANAGEMENT

A disaster of an unprecedented scale is brewing, and so far no one has been able to complete the task of finding a solution to the problem. The authorities have therefore chosen to assemble a team of experts in the field.

Inspired by real events in the Gulf of Mexico, you will work with a very concrete challenge that must be solved as a Task Force. You are therefore under pressure for time, cooperation, planning and utilization of competences.

The task has a high degree of realism, as the practical part of the course takes place underwater, where parts of the team get to work, while the rest control the process from a command room.

All participants must have a role in the process, which will include 4 main points; namely clarification, planning, execution and evaluation.

The team must initially assess the nature of the task and what the final solution of the task should look like. A detailed master plan is then drawn up for how the task is to be carried out, including the determination of sub-goals and how the plan is made measurable for ongoing evaluation.

When the team's strategy for the implementation is fixed, it must be clarified which competencies are to be used, i.e. which concrete tasks need to be solved and who has the experience for it. A work plan must then be drawn up for when these skills are to be used.

On the basis of this competence clarification, a distribution of roles and a timetable with indication of success criteria are determined. All criteria must be directly measurable and have consequences if the goals are not met.

The whole process is managed by a team of instructors, who continuously give the team small tasks to be handled alongside the main task.
